About this collection

This collection examines the earliest roots of the George C. Marshall Center by assembling an assortment of materials from and about Detachment "R", later named USARI - The U.S. Army Russian Institute. What was the mission and goals of this organization? What types of programs did it provide? Who were the people that developed and delivered the studies and events that took place there? Who attended the programs? What about the families--what were their experiences living in Germany while their sponsors focused on their studies? What did the "public" think about the program? We hope that the remnants of materials saved from this period in time will capture as much as possible a picture of USARI's true legacy.

We are actively finding and preserving materials for this collection. If you have or know of any one who might have materials to contribute, please notify the Marshall Center Research Library at libraryc@marshallcenter.org.
